Roseville Library Launches Innovative Makerspace Program

1 week agoSunday, February 22, 2026Roseville Public Library, CA

The Roseville Public Library unveiled its new Makerspace, a 2,500-square-foot innovation lab equipped with cutting-edge technology and creative tools available free to library cardholders.

The facility represents a significant evolution in library services, transforming the traditional library into a hub for hands-on learning and creative production. The Makerspace features 3D printers, laser cutters, vinyl cutters, sewing machines, digital audio recording equipment, and video editing workstations.

Community members can reserve time to use the equipment after completing brief training sessions offered by library staff. The space also includes a small workshop area for woodworking and crafts. Library Director Chris Weare explained the vision behind the project: 'Libraries have always been about providing access to resources and knowledge.

The Makerspace extends that mission into the digital age, giving everyone access to tools and technology they might not otherwise have.' The $350,000 project was funded through a combination of library funds and community donations. The Makerspace will host regular workshops on topics ranging from 3D design and coding to podcasting and digital photography.

Special programs for teens and children will introduce young people to STEM concepts through hands-on projects. The library has already scheduled maker fairs where community members can showcase projects created in the space. Early response has been overwhelming, with hundreds of residents signing up for training sessions in the first week.

The library plans to expand hours based on demand and may add additional equipment as the program grows.
