The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency honored Roseville with its prestigious Green City Award, recognizing the city's comprehensive approach to environmental sustainability and resource conservation.

Roseville was one of only 12 cities nationwide to receive the award, which evaluates municipal programs across water conservation, renewable energy, waste reduction, and air quality initiatives. The city's award-winning programs include an innovative water recycling system that reclaims wastewater for irrigation and industrial uses, reducing potable water consumption by 30% over the past five years.

Roseville has also installed solar panels on municipal buildings, generating 40% of the city's government electricity needs from renewable sources. Environmental Utilities Director Marc Boomgaarden accepted the award at a ceremony in Washington, D.C.: 'This recognition reflects our community's commitment to environmental stewardship.

We've proven that sustainability and economic growth can go hand in hand.' The city's comprehensive recycling program achieves a 65% diversion rate, well above the state average. Additional initiatives contributing to the award include the city's urban forest management program, which has planted over 5,000 trees in the past three years, and electric vehicle charging infrastructure that supports the transition to clean transportation.

The city has also implemented green building standards for new construction and offers rebates to residents who install solar panels or drought-resistant landscaping. These combined efforts have reduced the city's carbon footprint by 22% since 2020.
